SEL & Academics Integration

CASEL identifies that making SEL a part of the classroom includes explicit teaching of SEL skills, instructional practices, and integration of SEL and academics. Doing this comes with challenges such as time to be intentional and the training needed to learn developmentally appropriate ways to do this. What does it truly mean to have an integrated and effective approach to ensuring that SEL is a daily part of the life of the classroom?

Our panelist includes:

  • Chris Bezsylko, Head of School, Imagination Lab School
  • Dr. Lauren Fullmer, Primary Course Instructor, Rutgers Social-Emotional Character Development (SECD) Lab
  • LaRaesha Kugle, MTSS Facilitator/Instructional Coach, Educational Service Unit 9
  • Tracey Maiden, Adjunct Professor of Rutgers SECD, Staff & Student Support for Restorative Practices, Anti-Bullying Specialist, SEL Lab Supervisor, Highland Park School District & Rutgers University

Join us in this panel discussion as we address this question and look at how educators and leaders have been successful in their efforts.
