Our presentation by CASEL’s Director of Evaluation Research Dr. Erin Bogan and Research Associate Dr. Alaina E. Boyle will include a discussion of findings from the NIS to help providers understand trends in SEL implementation practices and strategies.

There is a large body of research that suggests that evidence-based SEL interventions and effective SEL approaches are an important part of a safe, supportive, and academically productive learning environment; however, many district and school staff members identify implementation barriers as impeding their ability to effectively use these strategies. The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) recognized these challenges for SEL implementation, and in 2011 launched the Collaborating Districts Initiative (CDI) to study whether it was possible to implement high-quality SEL systemically in large, urban districts across the U.S. To better understand the nuance of SEL implementation, under the direction of the Director of Evaluation Research, CASEL collaborated with RAND to launch the National Implementation Survey to over 2,300 public school staff members, including 1,200 K-12 classroom teachers and 1,100 school principals.
